Hargeisa- The spokesperson of the President of the Republic of Somaliland, Hussein Aden Eigeh (Deyr), shared an important statement on X (formerly Twitter) regarding Somaliland’s recognition. He emphasized that this milestone marks the end of the dangerous “Greater Somalia” ideology and the beginning of pragmatic regional realism.
“The recognition of the Republic of Somaliland by the State of Israel is a historic and irreversible milestone. It decisively ends the so-called ‘Greater Somalia’ project and the illusion of Somali unity an ideology that for over seventy-five years was rooted in ethnic absolutism, political delusion, and exclusionary nationalism.
The ‘Greater Somalia’ project directly fueled prolonged instability, fragmentation, bloodshed, human suffering, and developmental stagnation across the Horn of Africa, particularly affecting Somali communities.
Somaliland’s recognition not only corrects a historical injustice but also reflects a pragmatic shift towards contemporary geopolitical realities, prioritizing peace, stability, self-determination, and constructive regional engagement over outdated and failed ideologies.
In short, recognizing the Republic of Somaliland marks an irreversible turning point and the definitive end of the dangerous “Somali-Weyn” fantasy.
