Somaliland Slams Somali President’s Empty Threats

Hargeisa – The Government of the Republic of Somaliland has issued a strong response to recent remarks made by the President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, describing his threats as lacking substance and credibility.

This was stated by the Spokesman of the President of the Republic of Somaliland, Hussein Adan Igeh (Deyr), in a statement he published on the X platform (formerly Twitter), as translated by the Somaliland News Agency (SOLNA). He clarified that the recent comments made by the Somali President on Al Jazeera are not grounded in reality, but rather reflect a familiar pattern of a failed leadership seeking to externalize its internal collapse by blaming others.

Spokesman Hussein Deyr accused the Somali administration of being unable to govern its own country or even secure its capital city, noting that it survives under the protection of foreign forces.

He further emphasized that Somalia remains reliant on international troops for its security, while large parts of its territory are beyond the control of the self-styled “Federal Government,” which lacks the capacity to govern independently.

The Somaliland presidential spokesman underlined that the Republic of Somaliland is fundamentally different from Somalia, highlighting its responsible leadership, enduring peace, and stability. He stated that Somaliland safeguards its territory and defends its people.
Deyr added that Somaliland manages its international relations in a prudent, transparent, and well-structured manner.

He also categorically dismissed as “outright lies” claims originating from Somalia suggesting that the people of Gaza would be relocated to Somaliland.

“Somaliland is free to sign the Abraham Accords and to fully cooperate with the Government and people of Israel,” the spokesman said.
He further affirmed that Somaliland will not heed threats issued by Somalia’s unelected president, stressing that the Government of the Republic of Somaliland stands fully prepared to defend its sovereignty and its people.
