Hargeisa-The President of the Republic of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Irro), stated that Somaliland has already moved past the stage of nation-building and establishing peace, emphasizing that the next step is obtaining international recognition.
President Irro made these remarks in an interview with the Financial Times in Hargeisa, as reported by the Somaliland News Agency (SOLNA).
He highlighted that since his election in 2024, he has continued the efforts of his predecessors to present the legal and historical case for Somalilandโs independence to the international community.
He further noted that the lack of recognition has posed challenges for Somaliland in fully accessing global markets, limiting its economic opportunities and international trade partnerships.
President Cirro also emphasized that the people of Somaliland have personally built and maintained their peace, holding community discussions under the shade of trees to reach agreements, followed by the establishment of a constitution and government when Somaliland regained its independence in 1991.
The President added that Somaliland has held free and fair elections, which he described as exceptionally rare in the African continent.
