Hargeisa(SOLNA)- The Minister of Information and Government Spokesperson of the Republic of Somaliland, Barkhad Jama Batun, has reaffirmed that as false narratives disseminated by Somaliaโs authorities cannot undermine Somalilandโs sovereignty or its long-standing quest for international recognition.
In a strongly worded statement, the minister underscored that for more than three decades, Somalilandโs people and successive governments have remained firmly united in their commitment to independence.
He stressed that this collective resolve represents the foundation of Somalilandโs statehood and is not susceptible to external political rhetoric or misinformation campaigns.
Batun further highlighted that Somalilandโs consistent record of democratic governance, regular elections, and enduring peace has increasingly drawn the attention and acknowledgment of the international community.
He noted that the countryโs stability in a volatile region stands as a testament to its viable and functioning state institutions.
The statement, shared on X (formerly Twitter) and reported by the Somaliland News Agency (SOLNA), came in response to what the minister described as โfabricated claimsโ by officials from the Somali government.
Reiterating his position, Batun said:โFor 35 years, our people and successive governments have stood united in safeguarding the independence of the Republic of Somaliland.
This is not something that can be altered by the falsehoods propagated by the Mogadishu administration through the media. The world has recognized our journey of state-building, our democratic processes, and the peace and stability we have maintained.
The State of Israel has become a key gateway toward the recognition of our sovereignty and the realization of our peopleโs right to self-determination, rooted in the historic decision to reclaim the statehood we lost in 1960.โ
