Tel Aviv- Israel has officially accepted Dr. Mohamed Haji as the first Ambassador of the Republic of Somaliland to be stationed in Tel Aviv, marking a significant step in the implementation of diplomatic relations established between the two sides on December 26, 2025.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and reported by the Somaliland News Agency (SOLNA).
The appointment follows key understandings reached during the recent visit of Israel’s Foreign Minister, Gideon Sa’ar, to Somaliland a visit widely regarded as a strategic breakthrough that accelerated bilateral engagement.
Dr. Haji, who previously served as an adviser to the President of Somaliland, is described as having played a pivotal role throughout 2025 in facilitating dialogue and laying the groundwork for formal cooperation between the two governments.
In its statement, Israel’s Foreign Ministry described the acceptance of the ambassador’s credentials as a new phase in fully operationalizing diplomatic ties. Meanwhile, Israel is expected to appoint its own ambassador to Somaliland in the near future.
Cooperation has already begun to take practical shape, with Israel’s international development agency, MASHAV, launching a specialized water sector training program this week for officials from Somaliland’s Water Agency and Ministry of Water Development, underscoring the growing scope of bilateral collaboration.
