Somaliland President Urges Unity, Drought Response, and Peace During Meeting with Religious Scholars.

Hargeisa-President of the Republic of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Irro), held a meeting at the Presidential Palace with prominent religious scholars, where he delivered remarks highlighting the role of faith leaders and pressing national concerns.

The President expressed his deep appreciation to the scholars for their response, following Somalilandโ€™s attainment of international recognition, to individuals who attempted to hide behind religion and misinterpret Islamic teachings.

โ€œI sincerely thank the religious scholars for the manner in which they addressed those who tried to exploit religion and distort Islamic teachings after recognition was achieved,โ€ the President said.

He also praised the scholarsโ€™ contribution to strengthening national unity, social harmony, and cohesion across Somaliland.The President called on the scholars to intensify public awareness campaigns, particularly regarding the ongoing drought affecting the country.

He noted that livestock losses are increasing while agricultural lands have been severely damaged, warning that many citizens are facing critical shortages of food and water.

โ€œThe response to the drought is a shared national responsibility and should not be left solely to the government,โ€ the President emphasized.He further stated that the people of Somaliland are โ€œsailing in the same boat,โ€ underscoring the importance of solidarity during challenging times.

The President also appealed for peace among communities involved in recent clashes in the Waqdariya area of Sanaag Region.
