Hargeisa โ The 58th session of the Council of Ministers of Somaliland was held at the Presidential Palace in Hargeisa, chaired by President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Cirro and attended by Vice President Mohamed Ali Aw Cabdi.
The meeting focused on key national priorities, including the security situation, the economic impact of global developments in the Middle East, public health services, and the livestock sector, which remains central to Somalilandโs economy.
Security Situation The Minister of Interior and National Security, Abdalle Mohamed Arab, briefed the Cabinet on the countryโs overall security situation, stating that Somaliland remains largely stable and secure, with no major nationwide threats reported.
However, he highlighted ongoing concerns related to recent clashes in parts of Awdal and Selel regions.
The minister noted that the government has intensified peacebuilding efforts over the past four months to address the situation and extended condolences to the families affected by the violence.
He reaffirmed the governmentโs commitment to protecting citizens, restoring stability, and prioritizing a unified national approach to end the conflict through dialogue and reconciliation.
Rising Fuel and Food PricesThe Minister of Trade and Tourism, Abdirahman Hassan Noor, informed the Cabinet about the impact of the ongoing Middle East conflict on global trade and supply chains.
He explained that rising maritime insurance costs, disruptions in shipping routes, and increased fuel prices have contributed to inflationary pressures affecting Somaliland. As a result, food and fuel prices have increased, reducing the purchasing power of citizens.
The minister said the government is responding through market monitoring mechanisms and engagement with traders aimed at stabilizing prices and easing pressure on consumers.
Public Health UpdateThe Minister of Health, Hussein Bashir Hirsi, reported that health services across the country are currently functioning effectively. He added that a recent wave of illness has significantly declined over the past three weeks following a coordinated national response.
He also emphasized ongoing efforts to strengthen sustainable healthcare systems and reduce reliance on donor-funded programs.Additionally, the minister highlighted the โBig Catch-Up Vaccinationโ campaign conducted from March 24 to 31, 2026, which targeted children who missed routine immunizations, aiming to prevent serious childhood diseases nationwide.
Livestock SectorThe Minister of Livestock Development, Omar Shuaib Mohamed, stated that livestock continues to be the backbone of Somalilandโs economy.Despite challenges such as drought in some areas, he noted that animal health conditions remain stable.
He further reported that grazing resources, particularly in areas such as Aroori, have benefited more than two million livestock this year.The minister also announced the opening of a modern veterinary facility aimed at improving animal health services.
He further called for the development of a dedicated livestock export port in Berbera to strengthen trade and increase export capacity.In his closing address, President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Cirro emphasized that security and stability remain the foundation of national development.
He reaffirmed the governmentโs commitment to resolving the ongoing AwdalโSelel conflict through dialogue and reconciliation, stressing that protecting human life and property is a constitutional duty.
The President also addressed the economic pressures caused by global instability, particularly rising fuel and food prices, and called for coordinated efforts between government institutions, businesses, and citizens to mitigate the impact.
He concluded by stating that the government is fully committed to maintaining peace, stability, and economic resilience across the country.
