Hargeisa-The President of the Republic of Somaliland, Mr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Cirro), accompanied by the Vice President, convened a National Consultative Meeting bringing together the Speakers of the two Houses of Parliament (the House of Elders and the House of Representatives), members of the House of Elders, cabinet ministers, and the National Peace Committee, to seek a lasting solution to the conflict in the Awdal and Selel regions.
The meeting, held in an atmosphere of national responsibility, began with the President extending his deepest condolences to the families and relatives of the citizens who lost their lives in the ongoing conflict in parts of Awdal and Selel.
The discussions focused extensively on the security situation in these regions, with top priority given to establishing a unified national response to halt the violence and prevent further bloodshed among communities living in the affected areas.
The President emphasized to all national leaders present that priority must be given to peace, dialogue between the conflicting sides, and conflict resolution in accordance with the laws and peacebuilding traditions of Somaliland.
He reaffirmed the governmentโs firm commitment to protecting the lives of citizens and maintaining overall national stability.
The meeting reflected strong national unity and a collective commitment to taking decisive actions to strengthen peace efforts. It was agreed that a coordinated national response is essential to end the conflict and restore peace and coexistence among the affected communities.
The President of the Republic of Somaliland underscored the following:
โข The immediate cessation of hostilities to safeguard civilian lives,
โข The establishment of a unified national response involving all government institutions, security agencies, traditional leaders, and community elders,
โข The strengthening of dialogue and conflict resolution mechanisms based on national law and customary practices,
โข The reinforcement of security and stability in the Awdal and Selel regions to prevent further escalation of the conflict.
Officials from both Houses of Parliament, members of the Council of Ministers, and the National Peace Committee welcomed the national response initiative led by the President, expressing their full support for all efforts aimed at ending the conflict and stopping the loss of civilian lives.
Furthermore, in a separate engagement with traditional elders, the President stressed the importance of unity, social cohesion, and reaching an urgent peaceful resolution to the conflict in Awdal and Selel.
