Somaliland Government Moves to Tackle Economic Strain Linked to Middle East Conflict.

Hargeisa โ€” The 60th session of the Somaliland Council of Ministers, chaired by President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Irro), focused on the national economy, public health, and the effects of the Middle East conflict on rising fuel prices, living costs, and exchange rates.

The State Minister for Finance briefed the Cabinet on increasing fuel and commodity prices and currency fluctuations, stressing the need to boost domestic production in key sectors such as agriculture, livestock, fisheries, and industry. The Minister of Health reported measles cases in the country and urged stronger waste and sewage management to prevent public health risks.

Ministers also discussed the broader economic pressures caused by higher import costs, maritime insurance, and global market disruptions, which have reduced citizensโ€™ purchasing power.

The Council agreed on coordinated measures to control inflation, stabilize exchange rates, and strengthen market oversight.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining economic stability and protecting the welfare of the population.END
